Maya de Silva, BFA, UNM, 1986. Maya has performed with Maria Benitez Estampa Flamenca, Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo, Andrea Del Conte Danza Espana, and Flamenco Latino at venues such as The Joyce, Dance Theater Workshop, Lincoln Center, Kaatsbaan, and Boston Pops. In 2000 she enjoyed a scholarship to the 4 Month Professional Course at the Cristina Heeren Foundation of Flamenco in Sevilla, Spain with El Farruquito, Javier Latorre, Carmen Ledesma, Isreal Galvan, Isabel Bayon and Milagros Mengibar. Maya has choreographed and produced shows at the Kraine Theatre, PS 122, Third Street Music School, at Santa Barbara (CA) CenterStage, and at SUNY Orange in Middletown, NY. She danced for 5 years in the Met Opera’s "Carmen" and “La Traviata” and taught for 10 years at the Mason Gross School of the Arts Dance Dept. at Rutger’s University. She teaches at Roy Arias Dance Studios, at Rod Rogers Dance Studios and Ballet Hispanico, and is a teaching artist in the NYC Public School system for both Ballet Hispanico and Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo. Maya has her own dance company: Los Chavales del Barrio y Flamenco Revolucion, making their NYC debut March 28th and 29th.

Chris Burton Jácome began playing guitar in 1986. While living in Sevilla, Spain, Chris studied flamenco guitar with some of the greatest flamenco performers of this era. Since Chris’ return from Spain, he has been performing over 200 shows a year and has played many sold-out performances throughout the US and Canada. Chris’ music can be heard scoring the Emmy Award Winning PBS television special: “Flamenco” (broadcast in Arizona by KAET-TV Channel 8: Mike Sauceda, producer), on the popular TV shows “Kyle xy” and “Greek” and in 2009, two of Chris’ original songs appeared in the film “Amreeka” which was a jury selection for the Sundance Film Festival and won the Fipresci Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009. Chris’ flamenco version of the Christmas Classic, “Joy to the World”, was included in Coldwater Creek Catalogue’s 2004 Christmas CD. Chris can also be heard as the featured soloist in the movie soundtrack of “9/tenths”. Chris’ music has received critical acclaim from the beginning of his career. From Chris’ debut CD, Motivación, the title track “Motivación” finished in the Top 10 in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest World Music Category. Out of 25,000 entries! Chris’ second album, “Pa’lante”, was just as well received: “Highly recommended for fans of flamenco, nuevo flamenco, world music, or well-executed and recorded guitar music in general” –(Guitar Nine Records) Chris’ 4th album entitled, “Flamenco” is an exciting new work eliciting reviews like “Jácome’s gorgeous, evocative compositions are a testament to his abilities as a writer and performer…”-(Get Out! Olivia Chacón is a flamenco dancer, choreographer, and instructor with a uniquely powerful dance style and dynamic approach to teaching students. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Olivia recently returned to Austin after more than three years performing and studying in Madrid, Spain with some of the world's best flamenco artists. Her goal is to nurture the art of flamenco in the U.S. through high-quality performance and instruction.
After initiating her flamenco training in the U.S. with Omayra Amaya, Olivia continued her studies in Sevilla, Spain in 2001-2002 with Juana Amaya and Farruquito. She relocated to Madrid in 2006, where Olivia studied intensively with her mentor, Cristóbal Reyes, and other maestros including Concha Jareno, Alfonso Losa, and Jose Maya at the famed Amor de Dios academy. Olivia began her professional career performing frequently in Central Texas with local flamenco and world music artists. In 2005 Olivia premiered her own dance company at Austin's State Theater with "De Noche", a work commissioned by First Night Austin. In Madrid, Spain from 2006 to 2009 she performed at tablaos and clubs throughout the city, as well as in Germany. For two years, 2007 and 2008, she performed as a member of the Cristóbal Reyes Compania de Flamenco, and toured theaters throughout Spain, Mexico, and Cyprus. Of Olivia’s choreographic work the San Antonio Express News has written: "The choreographer's message is clear: This is a dance form that is alive and well, not a relic from a romantic Andalusian past." Olivia aims to keep the dance form alive and well in this country by performing frequently throughout Texas and the region, and teaching flamenco to a new generation of dancers at her studio, Flamencura Music and Dance in Austin. |

Style:Traditional along with modernized flamenco Companies:Flamenco Sonora Level of Expertise: 4 Daniela began her journey into Flamenco as a seamstress, sewing costumes for local flamencos through funding from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "Ele! Flamenco" was the first resulting agency created by Daniela to provide affordable costumes to local performing arts groups in Durham, NC. Dancing soon followed and Daniela then moved to Tucson, AZ where she graduated from the University of Arizona with a completed Thesis in Flamenco Dance & Performance under the direction of the Stevie Eller School of Dance. From this Thesis was born, "Flamenco Sonora", named from the inspirational noisiness of the Sonoran Desert. Receiving multiple Grants as a result of this project, Daniela continues the project in Jacksonville, FL where she moved to attend law school. “Flamenco Sonora” is an evolving ensemble of musicians and dancers all working to rehearse, teach, and share Flamenco through community and performance events. The group has collaborated with famed Mexican folk singer, “Salvador Duran”, jazz artists, salsa and Brazilian musicians, and traditional Flamencos.
Daniela has studied intensively on her own, using methods her maestros have taught her to embark on a very personal practice of study and performance. Others Daniela has studied with include Fulbright Recipient Cihtli Ocampo, Ethan Margolis (who works with Miguel "El Funi", Gypsy Cantaor Jorge "El Castanero", Saray (Grandaughter of El Farruco), Carmen "La Talegona", Rocio Molina, and Mele and Jason Martinez in Arizona. Daniela also has the utmost respect for her Maestra, Dr. Adair Lanborn, who made it a priority to understand the wounded history of flamenco and stressed the importance of understanding the musical and cante components of the tradition. Dr. Lanborn's approach also emphasized flamenco as a life long study through reading, listening, writing, and collaborating. Currently, Daniela continues to study dance, teach, and invest her time creating outreach projects and work towards creating a vibrant Flamenco Community in North Florida. She also regularly visits Arizona and stays abreast by attending Festivals and studying with various artists. |

Lia’s unique background in flamenco dance and acting has facilitated her development into a strong, elegant, and accomplished artist. Her strong family background and values have provided her with a strong yet personable and accommodating personality, making her both a natural leader and a contributing member to any group effort. These traits have enabled her to work with premiere companies and individuals in both fields. Based in New York City since 2005, Lia has been lead dancer and dance captain for Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, participating in two yearly nationwide tours, performing in venues such as the Discovery Theatre (Anchorage, Alaska), The Egg (Albany, NY), The Music Center at Strathmore (North Bethesda, Maryland), The New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the Joyce Theatre (NY, NY). She is also a company dancer of Oscar Valero’s Fuerza, and has shared the stage with Antonio Hidalgo, Raul Ortega, “Chuscales” Valle Fajardo, and Hernan Romero. Lia is an avid educator, teaching flamenco workshops around the USA, leading and performing in lecture demonstrations, as well as conducting extended public school residencies. Lia regularly dances as a soloist in the tablao circuit in the tri-state area around NYC and has performed in community shows at the Brooklyn Arts Museum, the Hispanic Arts Society, and the Bronx Botanical Gardens as well as the Battery Dance Festival. She is also actively involved in the Spanish speaking theatre and film community, having participated in Pregones Theatre Asuncion Series and the independent film Spanglish Girls. Lia is a member of HOLA, the Hispanic Organization for Latin Actors. She is regularly called upon to speak about flamenco and was featured in the History Channel International and the Discovery Channel. In January 2009, you will see Lia dancing in the movie Pink Panther 2 with Steve Martin.
Before moving to New York, she divided her time between Denver, Colorado and Sevilla, Spain. In Colorado, she received her BA in Theatre, emphasis acting and directing from the University of Northern Colorado. She has a special relationship with Denver’s ensemble theatre, Paragon Theatre Company, having developed, directed, and danced in their yearly fundraising show The Soul of Flamenco and acting in their production “Buicks”. Lia also participated in the Durango Shakespeare Festival. Since the age of 16, she has been travelling to Sevilla to continue her flamenco studies. Thanks to several merit scholarships from the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco, Lia was able to study with top flamenco artists in Sevilla, including Milagros Menjibar, Rafael and Adela Campallo, Manolo Soler, and Javier Baron. While in Spain, Lia also had the opportunity to study with Compañia Atalaya TNT, work as an English voice over actress, as well as assistant direct “Don Juan Flamenco”, a flamenco dance drama featuring Rafael Campallo presented in the 2004 Bienal de Flamenco. Lia travels to Spain on a regular basis to carry on her creative investigation and development in flamenco. Most recently she went to Sevilla and Madrid from Sep-Dec 2008 for intensive study, and also received a Jacob’s Pillow dance scholarship to study with Noche Flamenca. |

Since her arrival in New York in 2001, she has been performing at local tablaos with such renowned artists as La Meira, Carmen Salao, Jorge Navarro, The Cintron Brothers, Alfonso Cid, Cristian Puig, Hernan Romero, Nelida Tirado, and Antonio Granados. In New York City theaters, Sol has performed with the companies Pasión y Arte, Andrea Del Conte Danza España, and Noche Flamenca. She is a member of Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo and Omayra Amaya's dance company. She has also been performing with The Metropolitan Opera for the past seasons in Zeffirelli's productions of La Traviata. Sol has performed internationally with guitarist Hernan Romero (Mexico, 2006) and with Bessie-award winner, Roxanne Butterfly (France, 2007). In 2008, Sol danced as a soloist guest artist at Arrayan, a famous Sevillan tablao. An arts-in-education instructor, Sol has led lecture-demonstrations in schools, libraries and community centers for children of all ages throughout New York City. She is a flamenco dance instructor in Manhattan, assisting students discover their own style and passion for flamenco while mastering the genre's difficult rhythms and various forms. |

New York, NY An avid and accomplished performer, "La Magdalena" is a professional dancer who divides her time between New York City and Seville, where she trains with the legendary gypsy families of Farruco, Vargas, Fernandez, and Manuela Carrasco amongst others. In 1993 Magdalena began her dancing career in New York City. Inspired by her mentors (La Meira, La Repompa de Malaga, and Andrea del Conte), she began using her organic skills and educational background to teach people of all ages. By the mid 90's Magdalena had helped revive the local Flamenco scene, performing at popular venues such as Xunta, Alegrias, Helena's, Kaña, and El Teatro Espanol with Paco Milano. A performer also devoted to the arts in education, Magdalena created "Revive Flamenco NYC!" in September of 2006. With this fundraiser she was able to sponsor a singer from the small town of Ecija, Spain to New York City, revitalizing interest in the purer form in traditional flamenco. Currently Magdalena can be found singing, dancing, and playing "cajon" on stages throughout the Northeast. She has appeared as soloist with many companies including Neville Dance Theater (NYC), Pasion y Arte (Pa), Flamenco Triana (Chicago), and most recently with De Luna a Lunares in Philadelphia. Magdalena receives choreography commissions and coaches opera singers for their roles in "Carmen". Magdalena taught rhythm and dance at the renowned Fazil's Studio in the heart of Times Square until it's close this year. She gives workshops and demonstrations in the public school system across the tri-state area. An active teacher, Magdalena enjoys sharing her craft with community centers (92Y), colleges (Hunter) and cultural institutions (Spanish Institute) alike. She strives to inspire her students with the art of Flamenco's music and dance, and is recognized as a leader in authenticity and praised for her skills as educator.
In Seville, Magdalena can be found performing alongside members of Familia de Pura, Fernandez, and del Gastor, where she dances "por fiesta" on the streets of her second home, Sevilla. This Winter Magdalena will be featured in a documentary film by Lisa Katzman, entitled "Flamenco: Here and There" (Flamenco: Aqui y Ahi). Now creative director of her own company, Azulojos, Magdalena has just been awarded grants from The Field and Fractured Atlas. |

Georgia John Jaramillo is a professional Flamenco dancer and has performed nationally and internationally since 1983. He has been a principal performer with Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco/Segundo Compania, Ritmo Flamenco, Dance Espana, Danzantes, Pueblo Flamenco de Santa Fe, Naa Kahidi Native American Theatre Company and other fine companies. Highlights include performing as a principal dancer at the American Dance Festival, the Dance Theatre Workshop in New York City, Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors in New York City, Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and multiple performances with the Dallas Opera including " El Amor Brujo" with opera sensation Denyce Graves. He has been a teaching artist in schools and communities in the United States for 15 yeras. John is featured in several books on both dance and New Mexico and he is a full-blooded Native American of Pueblo heritage.
